Notes on ES-Backup up024, February 17th, 2003 Overview This document describes the contents and installation of the ES-Backup update up024 as of February 17th, 2003. up024 contents This update is made of 5 Unix compressed tar-archives used for updating ES-Backup 3.0.5 on Solaris 2.5.1, Solaris 2.6/2.7 in 32-bit mode, Solaris 2.7/2.8 in 64-bit mode, Linux and MacOS X. NOTE: Do not install this update on any other version of ES-Backup than version 3.0.5. NOTE: The updated ES-Backup Server may be used with ES-Backup Admin 3.0.5 . The tar-archives include the following files: busrv This executable binary will be installed in the ES-Backup Server installation directory specified during the installation. This file has the version number 3.0.5up024. Changes incorperated with this update: - Fixed a performance problem when restoring from backups with names containing special characters. esbackup This executable binary will be installed in the ES-Backup Server installation directory specified during the installation, subdirectory etc/. This file has the version number 3.0.5up024. Changes incorperated with this update: - Fixed a problem where schedule names containing spaces were not able to determine the status of the used device which resulted in queued schedules waiting even if the device was not busy. Server Installation Step 1 Unstuff the file "up024.sea.hqx" on your Macintosh, e.g. by using StuffIt Expander. A folder up024 will be created. For updating ES-Backup on: Solaris 2.5.1 copy the file "up024:Software:Solaris:2_5_1:up024_sun4-sparc251.inst.tar.Z" to an EtherShare volume. Continue with step 2 below. Solaris 2.6 or 2.7 in 32-bit mode copy the file "up024:Software:Solaris:2_6_&_2_7_&_2_8:up024_sun4-sparc.inst.tar.Z" to an EtherShare volume. Continue with step 2 below. Solaris 2.7 or 2.8 in 64-bit mode copy the file "up024:Software:Solaris:2_6_&_2_7_&_2_8:up024_sun4-sparc64.inst.tar.Z" to an EtherShare volume. Continue with step 2 below. Linux copy the file "up024:Software:linux:up024_linux-int.inst.tar.Z" to an EtherShare volume. Continue with step 2 below. MacOS X you have two choices, A. and B.: A. as administrator mount the disk image "ES-Backup.dmg" from folder "Software:macosx:". This will mount the volume "ES-Backup for MacOS X". Open "ES-Backup.pkg" in order to start the Installer which will guide you through the update process. You do not need to continue with step 2. B. copy the file "up024:Software:macosx:up024_macosx-ppc.inst.tar.Z" to an EtherShare volume. Continue with step 2 below. Step 2 As root user do the following from the Unix console: (make sure no user is connected to the ES-Backup server, stop the ES-Backup server) # cd YourESBackupInstallationFolder # ./stop-busrv # cp ESVOLUME/up024_macosx-ppc.inst.tar.Z /tmp # cd /tmp # uncompress -c up024_macosx-ppc.inst.tar.Z | tar xvf - (ESVOLUME is the path to your EtherShare volume) (The folder /tmp/ES-BACKUP-UP024 will be created) # cd /tmp/ES-BACKUP-UP024 (now call the update script) # ./UP024.SH (The update will be installed.
