Notes on ES-Backup up023, August 8th, 2002

Overview
This document describes the contents and installation of the ES-Backup update up023 as of August 8th, 2002.


up023 contents
This update is made of 1 Unix compressed tar-archive used for updating ES-Backup 3.0.5 on MacOS X.

NOTE: Do not install this update on any other version of ES-Backup than version 3.0.5.
NOTE: The updated ES-Backup Server may be used with ES-Backup Admin 3.0.5 .

The tar-archive includes the following files:

esbdump
This executable binary will be installed in the ES-Backup Server installation directory specified during the installation, in it's subfolder etc/ .
This file has the version number 0.4b23m5.

Changes incorperated with this update:
- Fixed a problem where esbdump in some situations reports a write error and aborts the backup operation by mistake.

Server Installation
Unstuff the file "up023.sea.hqx" on your Macintosh, e.g. by using
StuffIt Expander. A folder up023 will be created.

For updating ES-Backup on:

MacOS X you have two choices, A. and B.:
A.
as administrator mount the disk image "ES-Backup.dmg" from folder
"Software:macosx:". This will mount the volume "ES-Backup for MacOS X".
Open "ES-Backup.pkg" in order to start the Installer which will
guide you through the update process.

B.
copy the file
"up023:Software:macosx:up023_macosx-ppc.inst.tar.Z"
to an EtherShare volume.

As root user do the following from the Unix console:

(make sure no user is connected to the ES-Backup server, stop the ES-Backup server)
# cd YourESBackupInstallationFolder
# ./stop-busrv

# cp ESVOLUME/up023_macosx-ppc.inst.tar.Z /tmp
# cd /tmp
# uncompress -c up023_macosx-ppc.inst.tar.Z | tar xvf -
(ESVOLUME is the path to your EtherShare volume)
(The folder /tmp/ES-BACKUP-UP023 will be created)

# cd /tmp/ES-BACKUP-UP023

(now call the update script)
# ./UP023.SH
(The update will be installed. Follow the installation instructions from the script)
