Notes on ES-Backup up005, 26. October 2000

Overview
--------
This document describes the contents and installation of the
ES-Backup update up005 as of 26. October 2000.


up005 contents
--------------
This update is made of three Unix compressed tar-archives used for
updateing ES-Backup 2.1.4 on Solaris 2.5.1, Solaris 2.6/2.7
in 32-bit mode, Solaris 2.7 in 64-bit mode, respectively.

NOTE: Do not install this update on any other version of ES-Backup
than version 2.1.4 .
NOTE: The updated ES-Backup Server 2.1.5 may be used with ES-Backup
Admin 2.1.4 .

The tar-archives include the following files:

busrv and esbackup:
- - - - - - - - - -
These executable binaries will be installed in the ES-Backup Server
installation directory specified during the installation, and in it's
subfolder etc/, respectively.
Both files have the version number 2.1.5 as of 26. October 2000.
Update only available for ES-Backup under Solaris.

Changes incorperated with this update:
- Workaround for a bug in Solaris usfdump reported via
Sun bug-ID: 4378068
ES-Backup now performs the recommended call to "lockfs -fa" before
any backup operation. 


Server Installation
-------------------
Unstuff the file "up005.sea.hqx" on your Macintosh, e.g. by using
StuffIt Expander. A folder up005 will be created.

For updateing ES-Backup 2.1.4 on:
Solaris 2.5.1 copy the file
"up005:Software:Solaris:2_5_1:up005_sun4-sparc251.inst.tar.Z"

Solaris 2.6 or 2.7 in 32-bit mode copy the file
"up005:Software:Solaris:2_5_1:up005_sun4-sparc.inst.tar.Z"

Solaris 2.7 in 64-bit mode copy the file
"up005:Software:Solaris:2_5_1:up005_sun4-sparc64.inst.tar.Z"

to an EtherShare volume.

As root user do the follwoing from the Unix console:

(make sure no user is connected to the ES-Backup server,
stop the ES-Backup server)
# cd /usr/local/bu
# ./stop-busrv

# cd /tmp
# uncompress -c ESVOLUME/up005_YYY.inst.tar.Z | tar xvf -
(ESVOLUME is the path to your EtherShare volume)
(YYY is the requested filename part of the update file)
(The folder /tmp/ES-BACKUP-UP005 will be created)

# cd /tmp/ES-BACKUP-UP005

(now call the update script with the path to your ES-Backup server's 
installation parent directory, e.g. /usr/local)
# ./UP005.SH /usr/local
(The update will be installed. Follow the installation instructions
from the script)
